National Visas

INFORMATION ON NATIONAL/LONG-STAY VISAS (for stays over 90 days):

Visa applicants are hereby notified that, following the entry into force of Decree-Law 145/2024, as of 11 January 2025, it will be mandatory to collect the fingerprints of applicants also for all national entry visas (type D). Applicants will therefore be required to request an appointment (using the PRENOTAMI application available on our website under Visas) and appear in person at the Consulate when submitting their visa application. The procedures for acquisition and any exceptions are the same as those currently in place for short-stay visas (Art. 13 of the Visa Code). The biometrics collection is exclusively available at the Italian Embassy in WELLINGTON.

Long-stay visas are issued by the Italian Embassy in Wellington for all applicants currently residing in New Zealand, Tuvalu, Samoa, Tonga, Niue, Cook Islands, Samoa, Kiribati, Pitcairn.

To be able to submit an application, please check first the requirements for each National Visas available and afterward you can attempt to book an appointment using the PRENOT@MI application available on our website under: Visas.

Visa processing time takes up to 90 starting from the day the embassy receives and assesses all complete documentation. Supporting documents are accepted only in Italian or English.

Holders of a long-stay visa can travel in other Schengen countries for a period no longer than 90 days in every 6 months.

Within eight working days of entry in Italy, National Visa holders must request a “Permesso di soggiorno” (residence permit) from the “Questura” (police headquarters) of the Italian city in which they intend to reside.
