Red Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall and flooding.

The New Zealand Meteorological Service has issued Red and Orange Severe Weather Warnings for the northern part of the South Island.

  • A Red Warning has been issued for heavy rain and ongoing flooding in the Kaikōura and Waitaki districts.
  • A Red Warning has been issued for heavy rain in the Marlborough district and the northern part of the Canterbury district.
  • An Orange Warning has been issued for the remainder of the Canterbury district and the western part of the Tasman district.

Italian nationals are strongly advised to limit non-essential travel in the affected areas and to exercise particular caution due to the risk of flooding, landslides, and strong winds.

Italian nationals are also advised to monitor the situation through the official MetService website at www.metservice.com for any further weather warnings.

Similarly, they are encouraged to follow updates and guidance from www.civildefence.govt.nz and www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/highway-conditions regarding road conditions, and to comply with instructions issued by local authorities, including those broadcast by RNZ and through official information channels.
