{"id":249,"date":"2023-09-06T15:40:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-06T03:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambwellington.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/schengen-visas\/"},"modified":"2025-01-13T20:22:02","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T08:22:02","slug":"schengen-visas","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambwellington.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/schengen-visas\/","title":{"rendered":"Schengen Visas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SHORT TERM SCHENGEN VISA:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>for tourist, business, conference and study stays up to 90 days in the Schengen area<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following countries make up the\u00a0Schengen Area: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>The following European countries are\u00a0not part of the Schengen area: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR A SCHENGEN VISA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Residents of New Zealand (with at least 6 months of residual validity of their NZ visa; no application from holders of short-term visas will be accepted) or residents of any other country of secondary accreditation of this Embassy should check online if they require a visa to cross the Schengen borders at:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it\/\">http:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU SUBMIT A SCHENGEN VISA APPLICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Schengen visa applications must be submitted to the diplomatic authorities of the country which will be the main destination of the trip\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">(in terms of number of days) or the first port of entry should the time spent in two or more countries be of the same length (same number of days).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Schengen visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days. The visa is issued strictly based on the itinerary provided at the interview.\u00a0Applications cannot be lodged more than\u00a06 months before the date of arrival in the Schengen area, but we usually advise to submit your application about 3\/4 months before departure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Visas are issued at the discretion of the Embassy. Presentation of the requested documentation does not necessarily ensure the issuance of the visa. The visa office reserves the right to request further documentation\/information or further interview, if deemed necessary for the visa application processing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The border authorities may refuse entry to a foreign national (even if in possession of a valid Schengen Visa) who does not have adequate financial means or is unable to provide full details regarding the purpose of his\/her stay in Italy, or for reasons of security or public order. Please be advised to take with you copies of the documentation that you initially submitted when applying for the Visa.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Embassy does not make photocopies or print the documentation on your behalf.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Supporting documents are accepted only in Italian or English language.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO SUBMIT A SCHENGEN VISA APPLICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Schengen visa application are submitted exclusively prior booking an appointment for the biometric collection via the PRENOT@MI application available on our website. Appointments are only available at our Visa office in Wellington.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants without a booked appointment or with incomplete documentation will be tuned away.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that due to the current high volume of visa enquiries, we invite visa applicants to book their appointment few months in advance before their planned departure date.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the visa appointment you are required to provide the following documentation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Print out of the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/e-applicationvisa.esteri.it\/?L=it-IT\">E-VISA Application Form<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(please make sure that once printed, the bar code at the end is not blurry);<\/li>\n<li>Your\u00a0Passport\u00a0with at least 3 months validity after expected departure from the Schengen area (the passport must have two consecutive blank pages);<\/li>\n<li>1 recent passport\u00a0Photo;<\/li>\n<li>Copy of\u00a0a valid New Zealand visa\u00a0with at least three months validity after the returnig date in New Zealand;<\/li>\n<li>Full trip itinerary and flight tickets. Please provide every fligth\/train ticket for every entry and exit of the countries in the Schengen Area you wish to visit.<\/li>\n<li>Proof of\u00a0sufficient means\u00a0of support for the entire stay (current bank balance\/statement);<\/li>\n<li>Travel insurance\u00a0(NZ or EU insurer) that covers a minimum of EURO 30 000 for emergency medical expenses;<\/li>\n<li>Proof of socio-professional standing:\u00a0letter from employer\u00a0and copy of last three pay slips; students will need to present current proof of enrolment; unemployed applicants will need to present a letter from guarantor with a copy of valid ID;<\/li>\n<li>Proof of accommodation\u00a0(confirmed hotel bookings, no booking quotation) for the duration of stay in the Schengen Area. In case of sponsorship\/private accommodation provided by a family member or a friend, applicants are required to present as proof of accommodation a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ambwellington.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/host_declaration_form.pdf\">Host Declaration Form<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0duly signed by their host and accompanied by their host\u2019s ID. Hosts must be Italian citizens or must hold a valid Italian residence permit;<\/li>\n<li>Proof of Payment\u00a0of the visa processing fee (i.e. screenshot of your bank account). Payment is required by bank transfer. The applicant is advised to check the correct amount to be paid and our bank details\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ambwellington.esteri.it\/it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/tariffe-consolari\/\">at this link<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(Please pay the amount for Schengen Visa).\u00a0Please note that the amount of the visa processing fee changes every trimester. If the fee amount has not been set yet for the date of your appointment, please wait for the beginning of the new trimester before paying your visa processing fee.<\/li>\n<li>Prepaid self-addressed courier envelope\u00a0with attached \u201cCourier with Signature\u201d label (to be purchased separately) for the safe return of your passport. For rural deliveries please include also a \u201cRural Delivery label\u201d (also purchased separately).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>: When travelling with more than one person, each applicant needs to submit its own application, supported by its own full set of documents (see above list) even when documents are the same for all the applicants (es. shared accomdotation, flight, bank statement etc&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>For applications\u00a0<strong>on behalf of children under the ages of 18<\/strong>, please also enclose in your application a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ambwellington.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/statutory_declaration_for_minor_child_going_overseas_on_holiday_with_parents.pdf\">Statutory Declaration<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0signed by both parents and witnessed by a Justice of the Peace (J.P) and a copy of the children&#8217;s birth certificate (in english)<\/p>\n<p>If travelling for business purposes, please enclose in your application a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ambwellington.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/business_invitation.pdf\"><strong>Business invitation letter<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0signed by the host company<\/p>\n<p>If travelling for study purposes (short courses up to 90 days) or to attend a conference, please also enclose in your application confirmation of the enrolment or pre-enrolment in the course or in the Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that\u00a0<strong>if you have been granted a Schengen visa in the last 59 months, you may not be required to collect again<\/strong>\u00a0your biometric data at our office in Wellington.
