Births, Deaths, Marriages and Divorces<\/h1>\n
All Italian citizens are required to notify the relevant Embassy\/Consulate of any update in their civil status. Registration is free of charge. Please note that the required documentation for Birth, Death, Marriage and Divorce Registrations will be kept by the Embassy and will not be returned.<\/div>\n

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION<\/strong><\/p>\n
To register in Italy a Marriage celebrated in New Zealand, Italian citizens\u00a0must post to the Embassy (PO Box 463, Wellington 6140) the following documentation:
\n1.\u00a0Marriage Registration Request <\/a>
\n2. An original copy of the Marriage Certificate issued by Births, Marriages and Deaths (BDM)<\/a>, duly apostilled and translated into Italian by the NZ Department of Internal Affairs<\/a> or by a translator registered with the New Zealand Society of Translators & Interpreters;<\/a>
\n3. Applicant’s Passport copy<\/p>\n
If you are applying for the registration of a NZ Marriage of same sex spouses, please note that it may be registered in Italy as a Civil Union.<\/p>\n

DEATH REGISTRATION<\/strong><\/p>\n
To register the Death of a family member please post to the Embassy (PO Box 463, Wellington 6140) the following documentation:
\n1. Death Registration Request<\/a>
\n2. An original copy of the Death Certificate issued by Births, Marriages and Deaths (BDM)<\/a>,\u00a0duly apostilled and translated into Italian by the NZ Department of Internal Affairs<\/a>\u00a0or by a translator registered with the New Zealand Society of Translators & Interpreters;<\/a><\/p>\n

DIVORCE REGISTRATION<\/strong><\/p>\n
To apply for the registration in Italy of a\u00a0New Zealand divorce please post to the Embassy (PO Box 463, Wellington 6140) the following documentation:
\n1. An original copy of the Order Dissolving Marriage<\/em>,\u00a0issued by the\u00a0Family Court, duly apostilled and translated into Italian by the NZ Department of Internal Affairs<\/a> or by a translator registered with the New Zealand Society of Translators & Interpreters;<\/a>
\n2. Divorce Registration Application<\/a>
\n3. Applicant’s\u00a0ID copy<\/p>\n
Please note that\u00a0a\u00a0New Zealand divorce in Italy has to be\u00a0first accepted as a foreign Order Dissolving Marriage and then registered. Therefore, it may be that the relevant municipality in Italy needs\u00a0additional documentation\u00a0to register\u00a0your divorce. In this case the Embassy will contact you and\u00a0advice what to provide in addition, according to the Municipality requirements.<\/p>\n

REGISTRATION OF CERTIFICATES NOT ISSUED IN NEW ZEALAND\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n
Before posting Certificates not issued in New Zealand to this Embassy, please verify the required legalisation\/apostille for the Certificate with the Italian diplomatic\/consular authorities in the country where the Certificate was issued.<\/p>\n
Cerificates issued in a language other than English\u00a0must be directly translated into Italian (double translations are not acceptable; i.e.\u00a0from Spanish to English and then from English to Spanish); such translations will then have to be apostilled (if possible) or verified by the Italian diplomatic\/consular authorities in the country where the Certificate was issued.<\/p>\n

ITALIAN CERTIFICATES<\/strong><\/p>\n
