Jean Anderson Annual Lecture in Literary Translation 2025 – Prof Enrico Terrinoni

On 12th September, in cooperation with the “School of Languages and Cultures” and in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland, this Embassy contributed to the organization, at Victoria University in Wellington, of the Jean Anderson Annual Lecture in Literary Translation 2025, an annual conference dedicated to the theme of translation.

Prof. Enrico Terrinoni, one of the most distinguished Italian translators and Joyce scholar, delivered a lectio magistralis entitled “The Quantum of Translation: James Joyce’s Generative Genius”.

In his lecture, drawing on the metaphor of quantum, Terrinoni suggested a new conception of translation as an evolutionary and generative act, capable of reinterpreting the original text in new linguistic and cultural contexts.

The event was attended by researchers, students and specialists and was accompanied by a convivial gathering jointly organized by the two Embassies.
