25th Week of the Italian Language in the World (13–19 October 2025) Italophonia: A Language Beyond Borders
The 25th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with its longstanding partners in linguistic promotion (MiC, MIM, MUR, CePeLL, the Government of the Swiss Confederation, Accademia della Crusca, CGIE, Italophone Broadcasting Community, Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, RAI Italia, and the Dante Alighieri Society), is the most important global event dedicated to the Italian language. Since its establishment in 2001, the initiative has received the annual High Patronage of the President of the Republic.
In the year of the First International Conference on Italophonia, and in continuity with the fifth edition of the General Assembly of the Italian Language in the World, this year’s theme is “Italophonia: A Language Beyond Borders”. The goal is to celebrate the linguistic, cultural, and social space of Italian, envisioning a new global community united by a shared passion for the language and, through it, a deeper connection to Italy.
The week’s program of events and activities is designed to highlight, with an inclusive approach, the many expressions of Italian and its use across diverse contexts.
Auckland

The Department of Italian Studies at the University of Auckland, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Wellington, has curated a rich and varied program of initiatives to celebrate the 25th Week of the Italian Language in the World, aimed at engaging students, educators, and enthusiasts of Italian language and culture.
Activities include free Italian language classes for beginners, film screenings, lectures and seminars, live music, and much more. Special focus on art exhibitors—Italian or Italy-inspired—and a featured talk by Ghella, a historic Italian company specializing in major infrastructure projects, which recently completed a wastewater tunnel in Auckland. The talk, titled “Italian Language and Internships for Engineers”, will highlight the value of Italian not only as a cultural expression, but also as a tool for dialogue and cooperation in professional and economic spheres.
The week will conclude on Wednesday, 22 October with a concert by the Auckland University Student Chamber Orchestra dedicated to Vivaldi, preceded by opening remarks from the Ambassador of Italy, Cristiano Maggipinto, and an Italian aperitivo.
