Today, 2 June 2026, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, a milestone that invite us to reflect on one of the most significant moments in Italy’s modern history.
On 2 June 1946, through a democratic Referendum held in the aftermath of the Second World War the Italian people chose the path of the Republic, laying the foundation for a new chapter built on freedom, democracy, and participation.
This historic occasion also marked a fundamental achievement for civil right in Italy. For the first time, Italian women were granted the right to vote and to participate fully in shaping the country’s future.
As we celebrate 80 years of the Republic, we honor the vision, courage, and commitment of those who helped build the democratic institutions that continue to serve Italy today. It is a day to reaffirm the values of liberty, equality, civic engagement and respect for democratic processes that remain at the heart of our Republic.

sul web e sui social media.
Vuoi essere anche tu un volto della Repubblica? Bastano pochi secondi di video con te in primo piano
e completa, con il tuo pensiero, che cosa è per te la Repubblica.
Che cosa rappresenta e ha rappresentato: “Per me la Repubblica è…”. Il sito dedicato – www.ivoltidellarepubblica.quirinale.it – è online e già c’è chi ha deciso di partecipare, realizzando
un breve video con il cellulare, nel quale racconta cosa rappresenta la Repubblica a Ottant’anni dal
referendum del 2 giugno del 1946.
L’anniversario non può non essere anche, e specie per le nuove generazioni, un momento di
riflessione sul senso della scelta repubblicana, sulla storia recente del nostro Paese.
Tutti possono partecipare contribuendo a realizzare un archivio vivente di donne e uomini, di ogni
età e regione che quotidianamente compongono i volti e le voci della Repubblica.
