THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU SUBMIT A SCHENGEN VISA APPLICATION

  • Schengen visa applications must be submitted to the diplomatic authorities of the country which will be the main destination of the trip (in terms of number of days) or the first port of entry should the time spent in two or more countries be of the same length (same number of days).
  • Schengen visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days. The visa is issued strictly based on the itinerary provided at the interview. Applications cannot be lodged more than 6 months before the date of arrival in the Schengen area, but we usually advise to submit your application about 3/4 months before departure.
  • Visas are issued at the discretion of the Embassy. Presentation of the requested documentation does not necessarily ensure the issuance of the visa. The visa office reserves the right to request further documentation/information or further interview, if deemed necessary for the visa application processing.
  • Visa processing time may take up to 30 days starting from the day a complete visa application is formally submitted.
  • The border authorities may refuse entry to a foreign national (even if in possession of a valid Schengen Visa) who does not have adequate financial means or is unable to provide full details regarding the purpose of his/her stay in Italy, or for reasons of security or public order. Please be advised to take with you copies of the documentation that you initially submitted when applying for the Visa.
  • The Embassy does not make photocopies or print the documentation on your behalf.
  • Supporting documents are accepted only in Italian or English language.
