CHANGES TO THE ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP ACT

We wish to inform that the Italian Government has introduced the following amendments to the Citizenship Act n. 91/1992 with Law n.132 dated 01.12.2018 (effective as of 04.12.2018):
•application fee has been increased from Euro 200 to Euro 250;
•the deadline for concluding the administrative procedure for granting citizenship by the Ministry of the Interior has been modified from 2 to 4 years.
knowledge of the Italian language has been introduced as a requirement, to be certified at the moment of application with: the possession of a diploma of study issued by an Italian public school (or recognised private school) or official certification of knowledge (level B1, lower intermediate) issued by a recognised language certifier (University for Foreigners of Siena, University for Foreigners of Perugia, University Roma Tre, Dante Alighieri Society). The Auckland section of the Dante Alighieri Society is in the process of being recognised as an official certifier.

The above changes apply to all applications submitted from the date of 05.10.2018, except for the language requirement which applies to all applications submitted from the date of 04.12.2018.
