Public Digital Identity System - SPID

Italians living abroad can obtain credentials to access the Public Digital Identity System(SPID), which allows citizens and businesses to access the online services of Public Administrations and private members with a unique digital identity.

To request SPID credentials you need to register on the website of one of the accredited providers (some offer
registration only for a fee). The list of providers can be found at https://www.spid.gov.it.

If you do not already have an electronic identity card, an approved electronic signature or a national service card, some providers allow identification de visu (remotely via webcam). For the identification, you also need a current Italian identity card with photos and the newest tax code card, which also shows (on the backside) the card identification number (different from the tax code).

If you do not have a tax code, you can apply to the Revenue Agency through this Embassy. The timeframe to receive the
physical card can be long, but in the meantime, you can use the certificate produced by the Revenue Agency containing the tax code, endorsed by this Embassy, to request SPID credentials.
